Here’s an interesting story of how a decimal point changed the eating habit of children in America through a cartoon?

History has it that in 1870, Erich von Wolf, a German chemist, examined the amount of iron within spinach. While documenting his findings, he misplaced a decimal point in his notebook, changing 3.5 milligrams of iron in a 100-gram serving of spinach, to 35 milligrams.

This led to spinach’s nutritional value became legendary because of this human error. An error which became known for its power. Suddenly Spinach became a super star & made the other vegetables go green with envy!

Popeye & Spinach ! He ate spinach for his strength. It is recorded that Popeye helped increased American consumption of spinach by a third! This error was apparently corrected in 1937, when someone rechecked the numbers.

Serotonin, the mood affecting hormone is produced in our body. Primarily in the gut and some in the brain. To enhance Serotonin levels, one can consume foods with Tryptophan, an amino acid. Tryptophan assists brain function and has a role in healthy sleep.

Tryptophan isn’t produced by our body, thus we need to obtain it from our diet. Typically present in protein based foods, Serotonin cannot be consumed, whereas Tryptophan can. This amino acid has positive benefits on energy levels, mood, and sleep.

Here are some of the options of sources, whether you are a meat eater, vegetarian or vegan:
