“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit“. ~ Aristotle
A habit is something we do repeatedly without giving it much thought. It is an automatic mental and behavioural activity.
Habits shape one’s life and are a simple series of events
- Recognise the cue / trigger
- Create a response
- Receive a reward or outcome
How mindful and intentional we are of our choice of response and the following action, will result in creating a habit, which is good or bad.
New year breeds habitual offenders. Most of the New Year resolutions are very pixelated. Pixelated because most of them are not clearly thought through. Let us take the most popular new year resolution, to explain this concept – “Starting 1st January, I am hitting the gym everyday.”
Within the first week, most of those who enrolled, start regretting the gym membership. And, the reasons, while they might be completely justifiable, are causes of not being able to stick to a resolution made. Which brings into discussion, a key factor in habit building, which is sustainability.
At Kolam Podu, our intention is to help our community build a habit, enjoy the process and ensure it is sustainable.
Let’s make a start. Keep them small. Be mindful & intentional. Push for consistency. Celebrate every submission. Build a happier self and community, over the next 108 days.
