“Happiness depends upon ourselves”- Aristotle, .
Each of us are in a pursuit of happiness, but the fundamental question is, do we actually know what happiness is? What it really means? How should it be measured?
Happiness means different things to different people, but fundamentally, if we observe closely, it is the feeling of positive energy and pleasure.
In his book “Courage to create”, the American existential psychologist, Rollo May says,
“Human freedom involves our capacity to pause between stimulus and response, and in that pause, choose the one response toward which we wish to throw our weight. The capacity to create ourselves, based on this freedom, is inseparable from consciousness or self-awareness”.
Simplifying his thoughts…. There is a space between stimulus and response. This space provides us an opportunity to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.
This is the space we are focusing on. The space where one can calm down and get to a happy space, and then respond to any stimuli. When one comes from a happy space, even the toughest of circumstances or people become easier to manage effectively.
Drawing a Kolam requires focus. When in focus, everything else goes out of focus. Including your problems, fears and anxieties.
There is a lot to be discussed and understood about the subject. Every day we will be touching upon various aspects of bringing happiness into one’s life, while learning to draw a beautiful small Kolam.
Before drawing the Kolam of the day, think of what makes you happy. Start with a happy thought and watch the magic unfold.
